First Grade Explores Washington D. C.
First grade students at Bryn Mawr School have been exploring Washington D.C. The students learned about the White House, the United States Capital, the Pentagon, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. They even stood next to President Lincoln! Please take a few moments to watch the videos below. You may just learn a new fact about our nation's capital. Thank you to the first grade team for all of their efforts with this project and to Mrs. Bieksha for her never ending artistic talent.
Middle School Authors
Students from Auburn Middle School came to share their stories of diversity and friendship. Bryn Mawr students loved it!
Engineering at Bryn Mawr
Students at every grade level at Bryn Mawr School are given experiences with the engineering design process. In kindergarten, students designed a habitat for an animal. In grade one, students built bridges and roller coasters. Grade Two students designed their perfect playground.
We Went to Brazil!
Thank you to Mrs. Bieksha, the Bryn Mawr School Art teacher for the recent visit of these Brazilian artists. Through the use of song, dance, geography and language, they took us on a trip to explore the culture of Brazil and South America. It was fantastic!
Polar Express Day

Family Literacy Night 2012
On November 8th, Bryn Mawr School held it's annual Family Literacy Night. We were overwhelmed by the attendance at this wonderful event with 103 of our families in attendance. Students played games, read stories, used technology (BrightLinks boards, IPADs, and computers), created Retell ropes, bookmarks and ended the evening with a book swap. All of the activities were designed to help students to become better readers! Comments from some of the participants were: "I think this event was great!! My child was excited to show me what she learns in school and to teach me the activities she does every day. I am very happy we had time to do this.", "Well organized and a great opportunity to interact with your child and parents.", "Every time I come to this school I am amazed at the energy and enthusiasm of the staff. This is a wonderful place to learn." Mrs. Reidy, our Reading Specialist, organized a group of 18 staff members who made this wonderful event possible. Thanks to Mrs. Reidy, Mrs. Lacombe, Mrs. Marchand, Mrs. Bylund, Mrs. Tarini, Mrs. LeBreton, Mrs. Cotter, Mrs. Lukas, Mrs. Horgan, Mrs. Johnson, Miss Halliday, Miss DeStefano, Mrs. Strazzullo, Miss Rooney, Ms. Jaffarian, Mrs. Polson, Mrs. Huggard, Mrs. Campbell, and Mrs. Collins. We hope that you will all join us for this wonderful event next school year.
Chamber of Commerce Grant Winner
Mrs. Patricia Horgan, first grade teacher, was awarded a grant from the Auburn Chamber of Commerce. This grant will allow for the purchase of 'Toobaloos' for grade one students. Toobaloos are plastic tubes into which students read so that they are able to hear themselves read. This process helps students to improve their oral reading fluency. Nicely done Mrs. Horgan! Toobaloo-A-Loo!!
Bryn Mawr School 2012 Presidential Election
This morning, Bryn Mawr students participated in a presidential election. The election is the culmination of time spent learning about each of the candidates when they were children, the age at which you can vote, how old you must be to become president, the presidential term while also taking a virtual tour of the White House. Students came to the 'polls' and were asked for their name and address. The proceeded into the polling place (the cafeteria) where carrels were in place for privacy. Ballots were place in a secure ballot box created by our art teacher, Mrs. Bieksha. Pairs of grade two students gathered the ballots of each classroom in a locked transportation bag. The votes were tallied by class. Then the votes of each class were added on to the bar graphs. All students received an 'I voted' sticker when they were done. This was a wonderful experience for our staff and students. The results were.....Barack Obama 158 votes, Mitt Romney 96 votes and Jill Stein 1 vote. On Wednesday morning, we will also post the name of the actual winner. Thank you to all the staff and students for making this such a wonderful event.
Fire Safety
Thank you to Firefighter Johnson and Firefighter Steele for a wonderful review of fire safety tips. We learned so much!
